All the Small things

Four leaves on the sapling,

announcing its name as Spinach.

A young caterpillar on heliconia,

munching on its tender bracts.

Tired night queen flowers

bask in the sun after a night-out.

A spider casts its web across branches

to catch flying food in its net.

The sad Parijatha spreads its fragrance,

seeking attention. The lily pond floats with mango flowers

announcing the arrival of spring.

While a wasp sips water from it

to build its mud nest.

Insignificant as it might seem,

the water bamboo glows

like radium in the morning sun.

All the small things

that happen around

are the simple joys of a garden.
